How to do London Fashion Week the stylish way

22 August 2024

As August comes to a close, we may be saying goodbye to the summer holidays, but there is something round the corner to get excited about: London Fashion Week. Happening between Friday 13th September and Tuesday 17th September, it not only showcases new trends from iconic and emerging British designers, it also shows London in the most stylish light. If you’re not attending any shows, don’t worry, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate…

Have an Instagrammable meal

Who says style has to stop at fashion? There are plenty of Instagram-worthy dining locations on Oxford Street, which just happen to serve up tasty treats too. First stop: Brasserie of Light, which looks like the inside of a jewellery box, so mesmerising is its Art Deco-inspired gold and mirror decor. Meanwhile, LAVO at The BoTree Hotel looks like a beautiful secret Italian garden, with its potent olive trees and floral walls. It also serves delicious freshly made pasta and pizza.

If it’s panoramic views you’re after, then try 1864 Rooftop Bar & Restaurant on the rooftop of John Lewis, which mimics an English garden. Over at Selfridges, you’ll find a Riviera-inspired restaurant in Alto by San Carlo. Other great options: Aqua Kyoto which serves Japanese dishes, and The Nest at the Treehouse Hotel, which is all about sustainable food and drinks, offers 360 degree views of London.

Drink pretty cocktails

Don’t have time for lunch or dinner? Then surely, we can tempt you with a cocktail that’s delicious and pretty enough to be posted to your favourite social channels. Berners Tavern at the London Edition, is a gorgeous venue in its own right, with its circular leather banquettes and art-covered walls. Its cocktails, served from the glowing bar, are as tasty as they are stylish. Try the Coronation, a mix of sherry, maraschino and dry vermouth. In the same hotel, you’ll also find The Punch Room, a modern reincarnation of London’s 19th-century private clubs. As the name suggests, it boasts 20 specialty punches – including the signature Milk Punch. Further up the road, you’ll find the Bond St. Lounge Bar, a sleek and modern venue offering cocktails adorned with flowers and fruit.

Take in some art and music

Fashion, music and art have been intrinsically linked for centuries, so it makes sense to take in an exhibition or a show while fashion designers are presenting their new collections. At the groundbreaking Outernet, near Tottenham Court Road station, you can admire digital art on the giant screens, and enjoy live gigs too. During London Fashion Week weekend, the venue and its Lower Third space are hosting loads of artists, from First Time Flyers to House of Rah and a London Places+Faces party. The newly opened Moco Museum, already a hit in Barcelona and Amsterdam, showcases modern & contemporary classics by the likes of Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, Damien Hirst, Picasso and more.

Meanwhile, digital art venue Frameless offers late night sessions every Friday and Saturday, meaning culture enthusiasts can visit the four permanent galleries with a drink in hand, while listening to a specially curated soundtrack from Soho Radio in the Café Bar.
