September marks not only the start of the new school year, but also a season full of new trends to freshen up your wardrobe. Not sure where to start? Here are six styling tips to make sure you take on the Autumn/Winter 2024 trends like a pro.
Embrace tactile coats
Forget boring outerwear, for the new season, coats are taking on a fun, tactile texture that will make everyone want to cuddle you. Think faux fur, feathers and more. Believe it or not, even minimalists can take on this trend, as there are plenty of neutral teddy coats in black or brown that will work well with a simple wardrobe. Maximalists can have a bit more fun with colourful shaggy coats.
Go corporate
Consider this the grown-up version of back-to-school style. Though there were many preppy styles in the collections during Fashion Month (pointed collar shirts, plaid skirts, blazers and even ties), there was also plenty of suiting, which is perfect for those of you working in a corporate environment. This season we are loving skirt suits, silk shirts and masculine tailoring.
Go long (with maxi coats)
Coats are one of the basic staples of any winter wardrobe, no matter your style, so it’s well worth investing in one that will last a lifetime. You can opt for classic styles that will also tick all the right trend boxes, and for Autumn/Winter 24 this means ankle-skimming, pavement-grazing maxi coats, of the tailored variety, although the length works in plenty of other styles, from puffer coats to trench coats.
Have a glass of wine
Last Autumn, red was everywhere but a year on, a rich wine burgundy is the colour of choice. From deep maroons to lighter dark reds, any hue on the spectrum works. You can opt to mix and match several shades of red for a head-to-toe look or incorporate one colourful piece – a handbag, shoes or top – into a more neutral outfit of blacks and beiges.
Or a cup of coffee…
If you’re fed up of black and grey – though they are obviously timeless shades – then you can discreetly embrace colour with this season’s coffee trend. Here again, there is a full range of colours, from lattes (beige) to caramel macchiatos (camel), to cappuccinos (chocolate brown) and black coffees (deep brown). This trend works particularly well if you mix light and dark shades within the same tones together. We suggest a camel coat, chocolate knitted dress and brown leather boots. So chic.
Go extra with your eveningwear
Christmas may seem like ages away, but the party invitations will start rolling in come October, if not earlier, so it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. For Autumn/Winter 24, party dresses are going even more extra than usual, with gold and silver finishes, plenty of beads and sequins, sheer fabrics and draped silhouettes. These are dresses to be Instagrammed in, so don’t be shy. Simply finish off your look with a suede clutch bag and metallic heeled sandals.
