Coachella officially kicked off festival season in April, and there are plenty more on the horizon, including Glastonbury, Camp Bestival and Download Festival in the UK alone. So if you haven’t planned your festival wardrobe yet, you’ll be pleased to hear we have plenty of options for you, which will see you through the summer.
The Denim
Any seasoned festival-goer will tell you that no festival outfit is complete without denim. If you look back at pictures of revellers at the first ever Glastonbury in 1971, you’ll notice a love for low-slung jeans, bell bottoms, denim cut-offs and oversized jackets, and not much has changed since then. The sign of a true staple.
The Crochet
Crochet might be making a comeback on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2024, but at festivals, it’s been around forever. Just look at celebrities who have nailed festival-dressing: Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung… they’ve all worn plenty of crochet over the years, whether that’s a see-through dress, top, bag or cover-up.
The Wear-With Everything Dress
Just because you’re on your feet dancing and singing all day doesn’t mean you can’t wear a dress, as long as it’s comfortable and easy to move in. Trends-wise, we’re seeing plenty of sheer numbers, though slip dresses and boho gowns will never go out of style.
The T-Shirt
The perfect companion to denim shorts and wellies, a t-shirt is a must. You can opt for a classic white t-shirt or embrace the groupie vibe with logo and band t-shirts. Team it with the aforementioned denim shorts or layer it under a slip dress.
The Waterproof Jacket
Coachella, which is set in the desert, is one thing, but if you’re heading to a UK festival, you’ll know the weather can be unpredictable, even in the middle of August. With that in mind, a waterproof jacket is essential, though it doesn’t have to be boring. Stand out from the crowd with a leather-effect or colourful trench.
The Jewellery
Jewellery is such an easy way to liven up any outfit, and an absolute festival wardrobe essential. Anything goes here, and the more the merrier. Think layered necklaces, statement earrings, and this year we’re also seeing plenty of belly chains.
The Footwear
As previously mentioned, you’re likely to be on your feet all day, and potentially on muddy ground, so flat footwear is essential, and even better if it’s waterproof. Wellies and lace-up boots are a must, but for the drier days, we love retro sneakers or chunky sandals.
The Hat
As well as being a practical accessory since it’ll protect you from the sun on those hot summer days, a hat will also be handy for covering up greasy hair when you’ve been at a festival for a few days and your dry shampoo has run out. Straw hats are a classic, but this season baseball caps and bucket hats are also in, so you’re spoiled for choice.
The Sunglasses
One can always hope for some sunshine, and if those rays do appear, it’s good to be prepared with a pair of classic or statement sunglasses which will also handily add some cool vibes to your festival outfit.
