Meet Ruby Taylor, the British illustrator behind the A-Z of Oxford Street Royalty map! She loves to explore themes of empowerment, sisterhood and self-esteem and celebrates life’s little victories and big milestones with every stroke of her pencil. So, what gets Ruby’s creative juices flowing and how will she be getting her royal on over the bank holiday weekend? Keep reading to find out!

Q: Tell us a little bit about your journey to becoming an artist.

I’ve always loved drawing and creative pursuits. I followed my passion through school, a foundation course and university. If my younger self could see me now, she’d be quite impressed to know that I made a career out of my passion!

Q: Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere! I love traveling to different places because each town and city has its own unique color palette. I recently visited Tulum in Mexico and was blown away by the hand-painted signs and murals.

Q: How would you describe your work in three words?

Colourful, playful and busy.

Q: What inspired the Get Your Royal On illustration and colour palette?

I wanted a super bright and colourful palette to represent the lively atmosphere of Oxford Street. Also I had to throw in some purples and golds as a nod to royalty.

Q: Which activities on the A-Z of Oxford Street Royalty map would you most like to experience?

That’s a tough one! I do love a doughnut so maybe I would have to head to Superdry.

Q: How will you be celebrating over the Coronation weekend?

Who doesn’t love a glass of champagne!? Plus I’m very thankful for the extra bank holiday!

Q: What are some of your favourite stores, restaurants or leisure brands on Oxford Street?

I can never resist a Uniqlo waffle top, and you can’t go wrong with some Nike trainers.

Q: Describe your ultimate day out in London’s iconic West End.

First, I’d stroll down Oxford Street, taking in all the sights and sounds. Then, I’d pop into nearby Choosing Keeping and buy a sketchbook. After that, I’d head to the National Gallery for some inspiration and sketching. Finally, I’d indulge in a feast at Sticks n Sushi. Yum!

Navigate your way through the Coronation festivities on Oxford Street and keep up with Ruby’s latest work on Instagram.
